Longport is a Borough located in Atlantic County, New Jersey along the Atlantic Ocean shore of Absecon Island. As of the 2000 census, it had a population of 1,054 full time residents. Longport is situated just south of Atlantic City, with a quiet, small-town atmosphere just minutes from all the excitement of the casinos and entertainment. Longport is primarily a residential community with accommodations that consist of vacation rental homes and bed and breakfasts. It is the southernmost of three shore towns that feature multi-million dollar oceanfront mansions, upscale boutiques and gourmet restaurants. Longport is the most quiet and priciest of the three towns, with beautiful, clean, uncrowded beaches. This community is known for its' spectacular real estate, a mix of modern architecture and "genteel old beach homes." Swimming, sailing, fishing and golf are just a few of the activities available near Longport. World famous Atlantic City provides lots of thrills - the rides, shops, restaurants and entertainment on the boardwalk makes it a destination unto itself. Other area attractions include the Absecon Lighthouse, the Children's Museum in Egg Harbor Township and the Brigantine Sea Life Museum and Marine Mammal Stranding Center.

Longport Weather & Climate

Southeastern coastal New Jersey has a humid subtropical climate, with maritime influences, especially in summer. Summers are typically warm and humid with cooling ocean breezes, which makes this region much cooler than inland regions. Winters are cold, but not frigid. It's not uncommon for this area to receive rain in the winter when the rest of the state is receiving snow. Spring and autumn are unpredictable, but usually mild with low humidity. During winter and early spring, nor'easters are possible, but hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes are rare. Thunderstorms occur 25 to 30 times per year, most of which are in summer.
