Stone-Harbor is a beautiful seashore resort community located on a barrier island known as Seven-Mile Island on the Jersey Cape. It shares the island with the city of Avalon. The island is approximately seven miles long and only three or four city blocks wide, and Stone Harbor occupies the southern half, extending from 80th Street to Hereford Inlet. The city of Avalon is at the northern tip of the island. Seven Mile Island is known for its' magnificent beaches that run the entire length of the island, and Stone Harbor is especially known for its' excellent boating facilities. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intercoastal Waterway on the west, the island offers unparalleled recreational opportunities. Swimming, sunbathing, shelling, beach volleyball, claming and crabbing, surfing, water-skiing - the list goes on and on. Several great golf courses are within a 15-mile radius and whale watching and fishing boat charters are also available on Seven-Mile Island. Stone Harbor offers some of the best shopping and dining in the area, and is home to The Wetlands Institute, a non-profit institution located on 6,000 acres of coastal wetlands. The Institute offers field trips and family outings, guided tours and summer programs. Neighboring Avalon is also a great place to visit and includes a quaint downtown area with antique stores and art galleries. Stone Harbor is just minutes from historic Victorian Cape May City and about thirty minutes to Atlantic City.

Stone Harbor Weather & Climate

The southeastern tip of New Jersey , near Cape May, has a humid subtropical climate with maritime influences. Continental and oceanic influences battle for dominance in the weather patterns on a daily to weekly bases. The coastal zone generally has warmer temperatures than the interior regions in winter. Sea breezes play a major role in the climate, and offer a cooling effect on hot summer days. Coastal storms, often characterized as nor'easters, are most frequent between October and April. These storms bring strong winds and heavy rains. Rarely does a winter go by without at least one significant coastal storm. Tropical storms and hurricanes are also a special concern along the coast, although plenty of warning is given for these types of storms.
